Basketball Game Preview: Indian Land Warriors vs. York Cougars

The Indian Land Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the York Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Indian Land will be strutting in after a victory while York will be coming in after a defeat.

Indian Land is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Cardinal Newman on Monday. Indian Land strolled past Cardinal Newman with points to spare, taking the game 49-32.

Indian Land found their leader in freshman Variellis Vega- Soto, who went 6 of 12 en route to 15 points along with five assists and three steals. Vega- Soto has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Pensule, who posted nine points and six boards.

Indian Land smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 16 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, York was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss dating back to last season. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Chester an easy 39-19 win. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Cyclones are ranked 32nd).

Indian Land's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4. As for York, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Everything went Indian Land's way against York in their previous meeting back in January, as Indian Land made off with a 47-23 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Indian Land since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
