Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Roosevelt

Roosevelt was handed a 23-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Eastside Catholic Crusaders 59-56. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Roughriders' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Crusaders are ranked 25th).

Roosevelt can attribute much of their success to Elliot (EJ) Sommers, who posted 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Washington, who put up 11 points.

Roosevelt's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Eastside Catholic, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.

Roosevelt will head out on the road to take on West Seattle at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Eastside Catholic, they will welcome Nathan Hale at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Eastside Catholic is facing Nathan Hale at the right time seeing as Nathan Hale is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
