Baseball Game Preview: Miami Wardogs vs. Oologah Mustangs

Miami is 0-10 against Oologah since April of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Wardogs will venture away from home to face off against the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Miami took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Inola, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wardogs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Longhorns on Tuesday, sneaking past 2-1. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wardogs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Grant Blundell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. He has become a key player for Miami: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 3-9 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sam Lillard, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

Oologah not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 16, 2024. They put the hurt on Pryor with a sharp 9-2 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Oologah also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Kaden Fisher gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Jett Griswold was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Carson Robertson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Oologah's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Miami, their record now sits at 5-10.

Miami suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Oologah in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wardogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
