Softball Recap: Brighton Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Brighton waltzed into their matchup on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Ripley Tigers 15-5. Considering the Cardinals have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Laney Lawson tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aliya Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Aeryl Potter was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Brighton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Brighton's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ripley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5-1.

Coming up, Brighton will face off against Millington Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Ripley, they will be playing at home against Westview at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
