Naaman Forest is 0-10 against Sachse since March of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Rangers will take on the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Naaman Forest took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past North Garland 14-3. Considering the Rangers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Emily Velazquez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Lazalde, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Amia Conley also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Sachse got themselves on the board against South Garland on Friday, but South Garland never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Titans. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Like Naaman Forest, Sachse also got a great game from a two-way player: Logan Schultz. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Schultz was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Maya Mcclarity and Zoe Worley did most of the damage at the plate: Mcclarity went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Worley scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Shelby Siratt, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Sachse always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .774. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Garland only posted an OBP of .100.
Naaman Forest's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-18. As for Sachse, their record is now 16-9.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Naaman Forest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Sachse struggles in that department as they've averaged .379. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Naaman Forest suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Sachse in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Rangers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
