Football Recap: Calera Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Calera extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They had to suffer through a 42-13 loss at the hands of the Benjamin Russell Wildcats. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.

Although Calera took the loss, they still got scores from Jordan Henderson and Jtavious Abston.

While Calera came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Benjamin Russell: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from seven players: Jeremiah Pouncy, Blake Montgomery, Camarien Yow, Joshua Littleton, Kenyon Russell, Kamren Jackson, and Jerrin McCain, who each logged one passes deflected. Calera wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 38.1%.

Calera's defensive line didn't let Kingston Preyear., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Pouncy, Jaylon Lee, and Aiden Hudson, who each picked up one sack apiece. Calera received some extra help from Abston, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

As for Benjamin Russell, they now have a winning record of 2-1. The victory continues a trend for them in their matchups with Calera: they've now won four in a row.

Benjamin Russell found their leader in sophomore Preyear, who threw for 221 yards and four TDs. Alijah Johnson was another key player, rushing for 52 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries.

Calera wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 37-34 loss against Pelham on the 12th. As for Benjamin Russell, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 49-16 win against Chilton County on the 12th.
