Baseball Recap: Gaston Day Comes Up Short

Gaston Day extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-14 in the process. They lost 15-2 to the SouthLake Christian Academy Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on April 3rd.

Gaston Day saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Kimrey, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Kellen Carr also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for SouthLake Christian Academy, the victory got them back to even at 9-9. Considering they have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On SouthLake Christian Academy's side, Jack Salony spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Salony also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Eagles are 5-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Evan Hogg, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Drayton, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Coming up, Gaston Day will venture away from home to face off against Metrolina Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. As for SouthLake Christian Academy, they will welcome Gaston Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. SouthLake Christian Academy's pitchers better be ready for this one: Gaston Christian has averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
