Football Recap: Thayer Central Piles Up the Points Against Southern

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Sandy Creek, Thayer Central was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 59-0 victory over the Southern Raiders. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Thayer Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Laken Wiedel, who rushed for 68 yards and one score, and also threw for 43 yards and one TD. Wiedel showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 53 yards. Blake Gunn was another key player, gaining 73 total yards and two touchdowns.

Thayer Central's run defense was locked in: Southern could only muster 2.1 yards per carry. While four picked up at least three total tackles, Gunn stood above the rest. He picked up 43 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 30 yards and one TD. Thayer Central didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 11.3.

Thayer Central's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Southern, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Thayer Central will face off against Tri County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Titans will be up against the Trojans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36.17 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Southern, they will take on Sutton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders will be up against the Mustangs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.17 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
