Preview: Allen Academy Rams vs. Covenant Christian Cougars
Allen Academy is 8-1 against Covenant Christian since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Allen Academy Rams will be playing at home against the Covenant Christian Cougars at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, Allen Academy was fully in charge, breezing past Providence Classical 65-15 at home. While fans of Allen Academy might be used to big wins, the 50-point margin marked the team's biggest win yet this season.
Meanwhile, Covenant Christian came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Providence Classical 70-11 at home.
Keeley Chaddick was her usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with six steals and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ely Matthews, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Allen Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. As for Covenant Christian, they pushed their record up to 20-12 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Allen Academy was taken down by Covenant Christian 60-22 when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Covenant Christian's Alani Owens, who scored 30 points along with six steals. Now that Allen Academy knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
