Basketball Recap: Elsa Nygren Key Part of Team Effort in Jaguars Win

It was a proper cat-fight when Jefferson Academy challenged Elizabeth on Tuesday. The Jefferson Academy Jaguars enjoyed a cozy 47-32 victory over the Elizabeth Cardinals. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Cardinals are ranked 248th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jefferson Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elsa Nygren, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards. Sofia Pathak was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Jefferson Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Jefferson Academy has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. Elizabeth's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-14.

Jefferson Academy has already played their next game, a 62-10 victory against Platte Canyon on the 27th. As for Elizabeth, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 78-15 defeat against D'Evelyn on the 26th.
