Preview: Ashley Screaming Eagle vs. Cary Imps
Ashley has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Cary Imps at 1:30 p.m. on December 29th. Hopefully Ashley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
Ashley pushed their score all the way to 59, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 74-59 fall against Holly Springs. While losing is never fun, Ashley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 310th, while Holly Springs is ranked 92nd).
Despite the loss, Ashley had strong showings from Coen Locklear, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds, and Forest Newton, who scored 13 points. Locklear continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Alijah Miller, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Cary was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 49-44 to East Bladen.
Ashley has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Cary, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
