Baseball Recap: Pershing County Takes a Loss

Pershing County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against West Wendover on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the West Wendover Wolverines by a score of 9-8. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, with their most recent defeat being a 15-5 loss on Friday.

Trenton Rhodes was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Rhodes was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Ayden Montes was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. Pershing County is 3-1 when Montes posts two or more runs, but 0-6 otherwise. Landon Fitzpatrick also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Pershing County's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-7. As for West Wendover, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pershing County will challenge Incline at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Wendover, they will take on Yerington at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
