Baseball Recap: Thornton Comes Up Short

If Thornton was feeling good fresh off their 16-0 takedown of Hansberry on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats lost 11-1 to the Crete-Monee Warriors on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 13-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Lamar Dawson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Thornton's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 2-4-1 when he doesn't). Antoine Bishop was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases.

Thornton's loss dropped their record down to 5-5-1. As for Crete-Monee, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season.

While Thornton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
