Basketball Recap: Hershey Comes Up Short

Hershey lost against Broken Bow back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Hershey Panthers fell just short of the Broken Bow Indians by a score of 64-62. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Indians are ranked 35th).

When it comes to explaining why Hershey lost, don't look at Kamryn Butterfield. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 boards. Butterfield is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Kenna Bringewatt was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Hershey smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Hershey's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Broken Bow, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Hershey will take on South Loup at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hershey is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season. As for Broken Bow, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Northwest at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
