Softball Recap: Millburn Takes a Loss

Millburn fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Belleville on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 8-5 to the Buccaneers. The Millers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Buccaneers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Madeena Cheema spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Zoe Barnett made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Poppy Meiler was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Millburn now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Belleville, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-7.

Coming up, Millburn will head out to square off against Montclair Kimberley Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Belleville will be paying especially close attention to the Millers' contest: after the Millers face off against the Cougars, they'll take on Belleville again at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
