With four of the top 10 teams in the nation residing in Southern California, the Los Angeles metro area has been identified by MaxPreps as the top metro area for high school football for the 2013 season.

The Los Angeles metro area includes Los Angeles County as well as Ventura, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties. As a result, St. John Bosco (Bellflower), ranked No. 2 in the nation by the MaxPreps computer ratings to start the 2013 season, is on the list along with No. 4 Serra (Gardena), No. 7 Centennial (Corona) and No. 8 Mater Dei (Santa Ana).

The metro area rankings were determined by taking the top seven ranked teams from a metro region and then adding together their preseason national ranking to come up with a sum total. Los Angeles had by far the lowest total with a 92. Dallas was next with 252.

While Los Angeles came in at No. 1, the state of Texas had three metro areas make the top 10. Besides Dallas at No. 2, Houston comes in at No. 7 and Austin at No. 8. Ohio also had a pair of cities in the top 10 with Cincinnati at No. 4 and Cleveland at No. 6.

One ratings note: Because information from coaches is still being gathered for the preseason national computer ratings, there is a chance that some changes will occur by the time the final preseason ratings are released on August 15.
