Baseball Recap: Asheboro Comes Up Short

Asheboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Central Davidson Spartans. The game snapped a strange streak: the last three times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Gavin Allen put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Ben Luck was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Shane Immel was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Asheboro's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Central Davidson, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.

Coming up, Asheboro will welcome Leadership Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Central Davidson, they will head out on the road to square off against Carson at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Carson's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Central Davidson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
