Softball Recap: Steele Canyon Gets the Win

Steele Canyon posted their closest victory since May 21, 2024 on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Canyon Hills Rattlers. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Rattlers: they've now won three in a row.

Marina Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Sophia Jackel was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

Steele Canyon now has a winning record of 5-4-1. As for Canyon Hills, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Coincidentally, Steele Canyon and Canyon Hills will both be playing Southwest EC the next time they take the field. Canyon Hills will head out to face Southwest EC at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, while Steele Canyon will play them later in the day, at 1:15 p.m.
