Softball Game Preview: Wisconsin Heights Vanguards vs. Dodgeville Dodgers

Wisconsin Heights is 0-5 against Dodgeville since June of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Vanguards will face off against the Dodgers at 5:00 p.m.

Wisconsin Heights blew Fennimore out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Fennimore got their revenge. The Vanguards fell just short of the Golden Eagles by a score of 6-4. The Vanguards just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row.

Wisconsin Heights saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Sutherland, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Dodgeville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Lancaster 6-5. The win was nothing new for the Dodgers as they're now sitting on six straight.

Ava Lord made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 8.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Lord was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tommi Crubaugh, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

Dodgeville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wisconsin Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

Wisconsin Heights might still be hurting after the 11-5 defeat they got from Dodgeville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Vanguards avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
