Basketball Recap: Mead Comes Up Short

Mead was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by the Elmwood-Murdock Knights 72-10. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Knights are ranked 67th).

Lauren Miller was Mead's leading scorer, having posted five points.

Elmwood-Murdock found their leader in freshman Jalyn Fleischman, who went 7-for-9 on her way to 19 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fleischman has scored all season. Brooke Goudie was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to five assists and five steals.

Mead's defeat dropped their record down to 1-19. As for Elmwood-Murdock, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Looking ahead, Mead won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Omaha Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Elmwood-Murdock, they will venture away from home to take on Cornerstone Christian School at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
