Baseball Recap: Lewis County Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Lewis County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Columbia Academy Bulldogs 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since April 22, 2024.

Fletch Kelsey was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kelsey was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for Lewis County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Whitlow, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Steele Moseley, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Lewis County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Columbia Academy, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 17-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lewis County will challenge Summertown at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Columbia Academy, they will square off against Rocket City at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
