Basketball Recap: Manley Continues Home Dominance on Monday

Manley won the last time they faced Austin College and Career Academy, and Jaklaya Hunter did her part to make sure it happened again. The Manley Wildcats strolled past the Austin College and Career Academy Tigers with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 56-41 thanks in part to Hunter, who went 19 for 30 on her way to 48 points along with six steals and five boards. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Manley's points.

Ja Von Willis was another key player, putting up five points and nine rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last seven games she's played.

Austin College and Career Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being DeAhri Hayes, who posted 14 points. That was a full 34.1% of Austin College and Career Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Amari Smiley also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Manley pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 15.6 points over those games. As for Austin College and Career Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.

Manley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 58-52 win against Wells on the 5th. Austin College and Career Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
