Woodstock Academy hasn't had much luck against Norwich Free Academy recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Centaurs will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 4:15 p.m. Woodstock Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
While Woodstock Academy's win against Bacon Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Centaurs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Bobcats on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Centaurs.
Grace Delsanto spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Ellary Sampson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Maci Corradi, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Norwich Free Academy faced Ledyard in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Colonels with a sharp 12-2 win. Considering the Wildcats have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Norwich Free Academy also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Dakota Bourdon gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Sophie Miner was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Amelia Driscoll was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Norwich Free Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive games.
Woodstock Academy's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-4. As for Norwich Free Academy, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Woodstock Academy's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Centaurs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game.
