Softball Recap: East Gaston Snaps Nine-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

East Gaston dropped their record down to 18-3 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the South Point Red Raiders by a score of 8-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-7 back in March.

Molly Kuproski was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Lexi Wheeler, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

As for South Point, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12.8 runs.

On South Point's side, Stella Absher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, South Point's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Emma Lineberger, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Coming up, East Gaston will be taking part in a tournament against Ashe County at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Point, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 12-2 victory against North Gaston on the 17th.
