Basketball Recap: Jace Curtis and Kolten Randel Secure Win for Akron

Akron won the last time they faced Belleview Christian and things went their way on Saturday too. The Rams blew past the Bruins 67-41.

Leading Akron to victory were Kolten Randel and Jace Curtis. Randel went 10-for-17 on his way to 26 points and four steals, while Curtis shot 88% from the field to rack up 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Curtis is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Trigg Weis was another key player, putting up six points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Akron was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January.

Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kentrell Beasley, who went 6-for-12 en route to 15 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Mallory, who posted 11 points.

The victory got Akron back to even at 1-1. As for Belleview Christian, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Akron will be taking part in a tournament against Idalia at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Belleview Christian, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-43 win against Rocky Mountain Lutheran on the 8th.
