Volleyball Recap: Olivia Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Victory Christian over Southview Christian

After flying high against Haywood Christian Academy last Saturday, Victory Christian came back down to earth. The Cardinals fell just short of the Southview Christian Conquerors by a score of 3-2 on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Victory Christian wouldn't go down easily and took Southview Christian into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-17, 16-14.

Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Olivia Smith, who had six aces, five kills, and three digs. Smith is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served three or more in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Karis Vernelson, who had ten kills, seven digs, and four aces.

Having lost for the first time this season, Victory Christian fell to 2-1.

Victory Christian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Tabernacle Christian at 4:30 p.m. on the 26th. As for Southview Christian, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Woodland Baptist Christian on the 22nd.
