Basketball Game Preview: Spanish Springs Cougars vs. Bishop Manogue Miners

The Spanish Springs Cougars will face off against the Bishop Manogue Miners at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Spanish Springs is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Galena: they outscored them in every quarter. Everything went Spanish Springs' way against Galena on Friday as Spanish Springs made off with a 63-37 victory. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Cougars had established a 22 point advantage.

Travis Lee was nothing short of spectacular: he went 6 of 10 on his way to 20 points and three steals. That's the most points he has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Bowers, who posted six points along with seven assists and five steals.

Spanish Springs was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Galena only posted six assists.

Meanwhile, Bishop Manogue entered their tilt with McQueen on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They took their match with ease, bagging a 68-34 win over the Lancers.

Spanish Springs better keep an eye on Liam Sorensen. He was instrumental in Bishop Manogue's win, going 7 of 15 en route to 18 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Benna, who had 11 points and six assists.

Spanish Springs' victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Bishop Manogue, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Spanish Springs has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30 boards per game. However, it's not like Bishop Manogue struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Spanish Springs couldn't quite finish off Bishop Manogue in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 60-57. Can Spanish Springs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
