Baseball Recap: Hamtramck Has No Trouble Against Summit Academy

Hamtramck lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Summit Academy, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Cosmos put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 13-6 win on Monday. This was payback for the Cosmos, who suffered an 8-6 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Gabriel Mills was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. He is becoming a predictor of Hamtramck's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 3-1 (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Mills was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kacey Brock, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Dorian Haslam was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

The victory got Hamtramck back to even at 10-10. As for Summit Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-4-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hamtramck will venture away from home to challenge Madison at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Summit Academy, they will square off against Crestwood at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
