Volleyball Recap: St. Charles East Fighting Saints vs. Waubonsie Valley Warriors

St. Charles East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Waubonsie Valley Warriors. Fighting Saints fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Warriors since Wednesday.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, St. Charles East sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-14, 22-25, 25-22.

Kaylee McInnis paced St. Charles East's offense, picking up 14 kills. McInnis got some help from Francesca Fevold and her 15 assists. Gianna Gjokaj controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

St. Charles East's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Waubonsie Valley, their win ended a four-match drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 10-8.

Looking ahead, St. Charles East will take on Vernon Hills in a tournament on Saturday. As for Waubonsie Valley, they will head out to challenge Naperville North at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
