Basketball Recap: University Prep Picks Up 18th Straight Win at Home

It's playoff time, and University Prep had no trouble coming through when it counted. They had just enough and edged out the Gridley Bulldogs 70-67. The victory was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on six straight.

University Prep's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trey Pringle, who shot 43% from the field to rack up 20 points in addition to six assists and five steals. Pringle has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last ten times he's played. Adam Gire was another key player, going 5-for-8 on his way to 12 points and eight boards.

Pringle wasn't the only one working in the assist department: University Prep was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gridley only nine assists.

When it comes to explaining why Gridley lost on Thursday, don't look at Luis Murillo. Despite the final result, he shot 67% from the field en route to 23 points and three steals. What's more, Murillo also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gus Stogsdill, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 12 points and six rebounds.

University Prep pushed their record up to 26-8 with the victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points over those games. As for Gridley, their loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 25-6.

University Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-61 defeat against Fortune Early College on the 8th. Gridley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
