Basketball Recap: Grant Falls Despite Big Games from a Sykes and a Sykes

Grant came up into this matchup off a tough 50-point loss last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the West Ouachita Chiefs by a score of 64-61 on Friday. The Cougars just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

A Sykes and A Sykes certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. A almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds, while A went 6-for-14 en route to 13 points in addition to six boards and four blocks. That's the most boards A has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of N Bultema, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 12 points and eight rebounds.

Grant's loss dropped their record down to 6-19. As for West Ouachita, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 19-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars duke it out with the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on February 21st. As for West Ouachita, they will head out to square off against Choudrant at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Choudrant knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matches -- so hopefully West Ouachita likes a good challenge.
