Baseball Recap: Point Loma Victorious

Point Loma came out on top against Coronado on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Pointers walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Islanders. The Pointers haven't had any issues with the Islanders recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Ace Selchow made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Wyatt Olson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Diego Palomo also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Point Loma's record now sits at 12-6-1. As for Coronado, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Point Loma will square off against Cathedral Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pointers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dons have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Coronado, they will challenge University City at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
