The Plainview Pirates will head out to face off against the Lutheran-Northeast Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Plainview has four straight victories, Lutheran-Northeast has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Plainview is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Stanton: they outscored them in every quarter. While passing duties were split, you can't argue with the impact Gage Walton and Kobe Maertins both made on the contest. Walton gained 145 total yards and two touchdowns while Maertins threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns. Walton is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last four games he's played.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Lutheran-Northeast took on Elkhorn Valley on Friday. The Eagles received a blow as they fell 32-14 to the Falcons.
Plainview will need to focus on slowing down Cole McGregor, one of several Lutheran-Northeast players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 92 yards and one score, and also threw for 104 yards and one TD. McGregor didn't just play on offense: he also made six total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defended one pass in addition to snagging two interceptions.
Lutheran-Northeast didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut McGregor.
Lutheran-Northeast's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Plainview, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

It's a different story for Lutheran-Northeast, though, as they've been averaging only 236.4 total yards. Will Plainview be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Eagles flip the script?
