Baseball Recap: Huron Comes Up Short

Huron had lost five straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 8-19-1 to make it six. They fell just short of the Trenton Trojans by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-2 on Saturday.

Huron got a good showing from Landon Wimmert, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Wimmert has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Huron saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Hoffman, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

As for Trenton, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games.

On Trenton's side, Brennan Gulliver made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Gulliver posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Huron will host Bedford at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Trenton, they will take on Carlson at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
