The Cyprus Pirates will take on the Spanish Fork Dons at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Cyprus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Cyprus is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top against Wasatch by a score of 6-3.
Dj Oveson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Cyprus got a big performance out of Brody Densley, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Densley has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Nick Griffel, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Spanish Fork waltzed into their contest on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 7-4 win over the Hawks.
The team relied heavily on Jackie Sorenson, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Boston Duvall was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
Spanish Fork always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Cyprus has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cyprus has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game.
