Softball Recap: Maynard Starts Season with Win Against Winchester

Maynard had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against the Winchester Red & Black on Wednesday as Maynard made off with a 20-6 victory.

Neveah Duplessis was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Haley Derobert was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Maynard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Winchester only posted an OBP of .423.

This is the second loss in a row for Winchester and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Maynard Tigers duke it out with Ayer Shirley Panthers at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Winchester, they will head out to face off against Concord-Carlisle at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
