Football Game Preview: Dirigo Cougars vs. Mountain Valley Falcons

The Dirigo Cougars will square off against the Mountain Valley Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Valley took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Dirigo, who comes in off a win.

Dirigo took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Morse with a sharp 35-14 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won three matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Mountain Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 21-20 heartbreaker at the hands of Lisbon. On the bright side, the 20- point performance marked the Falcons' highest-scoring contest to date.

Even if they lost, Mountain Valley's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Landon Theriault was especially locked on to Lisbon's QB and sacked him twice. Theriault has been hot recently, having posted at least one sack the last three times he's played. Mountain Valley got some further help from Kristian Azcona: he picked up 1.5 sacks, forced one fumble, and made six total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Mountain Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Dirigo, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Dirigo took their victory against Mountain Valley in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 by a conclusive 32-6 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
