The Fairfield Lions will be taking part in a tournament against the St. Joseph Central Flyers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fairfield has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Fairfield came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 13-3 to Manchester. The Lions have struggled against the Greyhounds recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Fairfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Corbin Willey, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for St. Joseph Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They skirted past Paint Valley 7-6.
Mason Weber was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. He has become a key player for St. Joseph Central: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Wesley Neal, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
St. Joseph Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in six consecutive games.
St. Joseph Central pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fairfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
Fairfield skirted past St. Joseph Central 4-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Flyers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
