League recap: Oxford tops Callaway to extend winning streak

5A Region 1 recap December 3, 2013

Oxford added to the longest winning streak in 5A Region 1 this week by beating Callaway, 23-7. The win marks 14th in a row for the the Chargers.

Oxford took down the Chargers 23-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jack Abraham threw for 274 yards and 1 touchdown during the win.

Johnny Hill's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Kenzie Phillips chipped in 96 yards. DK Metcalf helped Oxford's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 55 yards.

Abraham put up the best numbers through the air as the Chargers beat Callaway. Abraham's favorite target this week was Ethan Holmes, who caught 9 passes for 98 yards.

6-foot-1 quarterback Abraham of Oxford is the league leader in passing yards this season with 3,310. He has also thrown 36 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ryan Golden. The Lake Cormorant star has 67 catches for 1,092 yards.

In 187 carries Kaelin Thomas has put up 910 yards this year.

So far this year, Danterius Ellington has thrown for 1,971 yards with 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

The Chargers led the league in points allowed with 7.
