Basketball Recap: Peninsula Catholic Skates Past Cristo Rey with Ease

Peninsula Catholic waltzed into their game on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They took their match with ease, bagging a 68-37 win over the Cristo Rey Royals. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Royals are ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Peninsula Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaylen Wynn out in front who posted 19 points. The contest was Wynn's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Hunter, who scored 17 points.

Despite the defeat, Cristo Rey saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jab Scott put up 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scott has scored all season. Haven Wilson was another key player, putting up seven points.

Peninsula Catholic's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Cristo Rey, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Peninsula Catholic has already played their next game, a 59-58 victory against Benedictine on the 25th. As for Cristo Rey, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 66-56 loss against Southern Maryland Christian Academy on the 25th.
