Softball Game Preview: Charlottesville Black Knights vs. Louisa County Lions

Charlottesville is 0-10 against Louisa County since March of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Black Knights will challenge the Lions at 5:00 p.m.

Western Albemarle hit Charlottesville with a five-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Black Knights lost 10-0 to the Warriors. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Black Knights' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Louisa County was able to grind out a solid victory over Goochland on Thursday, taking the game 6-1. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.

Lily Ruckle tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alyssa Hopkins was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Laci Garrett, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Louisa County's record is now 12-5. As for Charlottesville, their loss dropped their record down to 3-14.

Charlottesville suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Louisa County when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Black Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
