Basketball Game Preview: Page Pirates vs. Grimsley Whirlies

The Page Pirates will venture away from home to square off against the Grimsley Whirlies at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Page has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Last Friday, Page came up short against Southeast Guilford and fell 63-53.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Lola Vanore, who posted 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Porsha Thompson, who went 5-for-10 en route to 12 points and five boards.

Vanore wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Page was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Grimsley lost to Northern Guilford on the road by a 52-37 margin on Friday.

Grimsley's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Page, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season.

Things could have been worse for Page, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-44 loss to Grimsley in their previous matchup last Friday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Grimsley's Shyla Simms, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine assists.
