Baseball Recap: Avonworth Victorious

Avonworth came out on top against Mars on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Antelopes took their match against the Fightin' Planets 8-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Antelopes.

Jack Dolan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run.

In other pitching news, Sam Zahn looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Cooper Scharding, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Metz, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Avonworth's victory bumped their record up to 15-3-1. As for Mars, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Avonworth and Mars could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Antelopes will take on Pine-Richland at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (66 vs. 3). Meanwhile, Mars (ranked 116th) will meet Shaler Area (ranked 23rd) at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
