Baseball Recap: Mt. Gilead Takes a Loss

Mt. Gilead extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-14 in the process. They came up short against the Marion Harding Presidents, falling 11-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Indians of the 10-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Mt. Gilead saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nik Coder, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Marion Harding, they pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games.

On Marion Harding's side, Hudson Esterline made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Esterline has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Landon Keller was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rau Scott-Harbolt, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Gilead will face off against East Knox at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Marion Harding, they will square off against Ontario at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
