Basketball Recap: Aquinas Monarchs vs. Scotus Shamrocks
Aquinas lost against Scotus back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Aquinas Monarchs were dealt a 66-38 defeat at the hands of the Scotus Shamrocks. While losing is never fun, the Monarchs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Shamrocks are ranked 27th).
Despite the loss, Aquinas still got an impressive performance from Bryant Stouffer, who went 7 of 14 en route to 19 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Storm, who posted six points and five boards.
This is the second loss in a row for Aquinas and nudges their season record down to 11-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-7 Bishop Neumann (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.6% over those games). As for Scotus, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Coming up, Aquinas will welcome Lincoln Christian at 3:00 p.m. on February 8th. As for Scotus, they will be playing at home against Bishop Neumann at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th.
