Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Providence School). They walked away with a 12-7 win over the Benedictine Cadets on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Stallions needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Gavin Duva tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Jake Cotner was incredible, going 3-for-6 with three doubles and four RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Grant Sheppard was another key player, going 4-for-6 with three RBI.
Providence School's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Benedictine, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Providence School will venture away from home to square off against Tocoi Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Toros' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Stallions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Benedictine, they will head out on the road to face off against West Nassau at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
