Recap: Lourdes Academy vs. Norland Vikings
Lourdes Academy came tearing into Thursday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 64-56 win over Norland. Given Lourdes Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while Norland is ranked 266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lourdes Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Luciana Picasso, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. The matchup was Picasso's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Sandoval, who scored 22 points along with five assists.
Lourdes Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Norland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.
Lourdes Academy will head out on the road to face off against Coral Gables at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Norland will be home for the holidays to greet Doral Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Doral Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five games.
