Baseball Game Preview: Wallkill Panthers vs. Roosevelt Presidents

The Wallkill Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Roosevelt Presidents at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Roosevelt took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Wallkill, who comes in off a win.

If Wallkill beats Roosevelt with eight runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Panthers beat Saugerties on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-3. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Sawyers: they've now won eight in a row.

Ryan Mayer made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Mayer wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zach Kantor, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Another was John Harrington, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Roosevelt fell victim to Beacon and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 8-0 to the Bulldogs. The loss continues a trend for the Presidents in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

The victory got Wallkill back to even at 2-2. As for Roosevelt, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Wallkill couldn't quite finish off Roosevelt when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
