Baseball Recap: Byron-Bergen Takes a Loss

Byron-Bergen fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Elba on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 3-2. The Bees have struggled against the Lancers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Max Marsocci spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jeremiah Romero was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Byron-Bergen: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Dylan Utter, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Byron-Bergen's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Elba, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-5.

Byron-Bergen didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-1 win against School of the Arts on the 14th. As for Elba, they will face off against Oakfield-Alabama at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
