Volleyball Recap: Hiawatha Takes a Loss

Hiawatha lost against Jefferson West on Tuesday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Red Hawks took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers.

While Hiawatha ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-17.

Claire Twombly paced Hiawatha's offense, picking up nine kills. Twombly got some help from Adison Williams and her 19 assists. Williams was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Leading Jefferson West to victory were Macy Malone and Payge Vetsch. Malone had 12 digs, while Vetsch had three digs and two aces. The dominant performance also gave Vetsch a new career-high in assists (three).

Hiawatha has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Jefferson West, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3.

Hiawatha has already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Atchison on the 20th. As for Jefferson West, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Silver Lake on the 20th.
